Unique photo books and gift ideas

Finding unique photo gift ideas for children, which also incorporate an element of fun and learning into the mix might sound like an impossible task, but I've got some absolute corkers to show you in this blog post!

 my picture personalised photo gifts

Children love an element of personalisation within their gifts, whether it's personalised photo books full of their favourite memories from the last year, personalised story books or personalised wrapping paper  - including them in some way is a great way of keeping them engaged.

Here are some of my best Christmas gifts ideas, which you can also try for yourself using our discount code at the end of the post. We are also running a competition for you to WIN a £50 voucher, head to the end of the post to enter.

Personalised Photo Jigsaw Puzzle

As well as being a great screen-free activity - Jigsaw puzzles are great for helping little ones to work on their fine-motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination and problem solving skills. Learning how to match colours and shapes, pattern recognition and logical thinking are all key skills when attempting to complete a jigsaw puzzle, as well as allowing positional language development such as 'top', 'bottom', 'side', 'edges', rotate', 'turn'. Completing a puzzle requires persistence and determination, and for little ones of course - the image needs to be eye catching, stimulating and interesting! What could be better therefore, than a jigsaw puzzle of themselves or other special people who they recognise to help them keep their attention focused and gain a real sense of achievement at the end of it all?

We chose a Christmas photo for our photo jigsaw, to help the children get into the Christmas spirit. This is the smallest option of 88 pieces to keep this appropriate for the children's age range, but there are also options of 300, 500  and 1000 piece puzzles to choose from if you would like your puzzle gift to be a little more challenging! The puzzle is made from cardboard, and you can either keep it as a jigsaw activity to complete again and again, or glue the pieces down and turn it into a special decor item once completed.

Personalised Photo Memory Game

Personalised photo memory game

We LOVE a game of 'Holland Memory' in our house, so I just knew we had to try out this photo memory game to add an extra bit of fun and personalisation to the game! If I'd had a little more time to plan this, I would have spent some time taking 'funny face' photos of the family to include in the game to add to the fun factor of this personalised gift. Setting this game up and then watching them take turns to turn over a pair of cards and noticing that is was THEM (and us) on the pictures was magical. They were desperate to see what pictures there were available, and to find ones of themselves! The involvement level was super high with this one.

If you are not familiar with this game, it involves laying the cards out (upside down) in a grid formation on a table, and then taking it in turns to turn over two cards with the aim of finding 2 matching pairs. If you succeed in finding a match, then you get to keep the cards. If not, you must turn them back over and let the next person have a turn. Remembering where certain cards were is key!

This game is great for memory recall and turn taking for both children and adults alike. Of course you can also use these for a quick game of 'snap' or again, to make a personalised decor item such as a photo collage board once you have tired of using it as a memory game.

Personalised Rug/Doormat Boardgame

personalised rug doormat

I absolutely loved the idea of a personalised photo rug or doormat. Although I know my children would love to wipe their muddy feet on a doormat of Daddy's face, I had a much better idea for this option!

I created a snakes and ladders board game using Canva, and used this image download as my 'photo' for the personalised doormat. My intention here is to have this by the door to the children's play area so that they can play 'snakes and ladders' whenever they wish! A boardgame that never needs to be packed away and is therefore always available for free play whenever they choose!  You could create something similar for small world play by designing roads or landscapes for cars and small world toys, a beach scene for their mermaid play, or even just their name to help them recognise and 'jump' on each letter when learning how to spell and write their own name.

Personalised Jobs Timeline Acrylic Checklist

personalised jobs checklist tick sheet

Helping children to contribute to family life and jobs around the house is key to fostering a sense of gratitude, independence and self-esteem. Yes, kids hate having to tidy up and teaching children how to do chores can be a battle, but adding a little bit of fun and some visuals into the mix can really make all the difference.

We use a weekly 'checklist' system to help our children remember basic tasks and things they can do to help around the home. I used their usual checklist as an image and turned into into an acrylic glass photo print which they can 'tick' off using chalk pens. We chose the smallest 20cm x 20cm option so that they could be more mobile with their tick sheet, but you could go with a large wall print and have it displayed in their room or in the kitchen or utility ready for them to complete their tasks.

Obviously every family will have different tasks on their own sheet - this idea can also work really well as a pictorial timeline for children who need a visual timetable of their day and things they need to remember in order to get ready for school or a day out.
